The unit is responsible for :

Managing the ACSAD library and providing the latest scientific references and printed materials of different sources and classifying them and making them available to the beneficiaries .

Publishing the printed materials pertaining to ACSAD activities and achievement and distributing them to the concerned inviduals, agencies and organizations .

Distributing the Magazine " Agriculture and Water " which deals with the issues of agriculture and water in the arid and semi - arid areas of the Arab world and also distributing the periodic newsletters .

Organizing and updating the library documentation .

Translating and preparing some of the documents, publications, studies and correspondence from English into Arabic or vice versa .

Establishing special links with other libraries of the institutes and organizations which are specialized in fields of work similar to those of ACSAD .

Carrying out
other duties which are consistent with the nature of
the work of the unit .
The main subjects in the library can be classified into
seven according to ACSAD tasks and activities . These
include water studies , plant studies, animal wealth
studies , soil studies , socioeconomic studies , environment
and combating desertification and biological diversity
. The library includes also international periodicals
dealing with these subjects in addition to a special
section containing different agricultural and environmental
programmes and statistics . The library contains about
15,000 printed materials. About 2007 reports and studies
published by ACSAD have been documented until now noting
that the documentation covers books , references, researches
, scientific papers , periodicals , scientific magazines
, etc.
It is worth mentioning that ACSAD is a member of AGRIS
/ CARIS of the Food and Agriculture Organization of
the United Nations (FAO) as all the reports and publications
are documented through using CDS/ ISIS system and the
outputs are sent successively to the FAO .
